The Tim Tebow Phenomenon

Tim Tebow understands who he is, a child of God. He understands he is a son of God first, and a NFL quarterback secondly. He gives thanks and glory to God for everything good in his life. Unfortunately there are many “Christians” that don’t.
With the publicity of Tim’s faith, I pray that God will give more Christians the courage to stand together with Tim. I heard a Bible commentator ask the question “if you were accused of being a Christian, is there enough evidence to convict you?” That is the question all Christians need to ask of themselves. Yes, you will be mocked and criticized, Jesus told us to expect persecution.
2 Timothy 3:12 “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”  We desperately need a revival in this great country of ours. While we still have the freedom to do so, praying in public should be the norm in a Christian nation, not an event to be ridiculed. There is something fundamentally wrong with a society that celebrates public perversion and persecutes public profession of ones faith. Why don’t we see the outrage when NFL players get charged with DUI’s, illegal drug use (and trafficking), domestic abuse, and rape just to name a few. This country was founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs and values. Our laws are drafted to reflect the truths expressed in the Ten Commandments. I pray that all who are saved will be obedient to God and have the courage to do so publically!
The media purposely displays Tim praying on the sidelines to incite outrage. What they are unwittingly depicting is a perfect picture of an obedient son and a strong witness for Jesus Christ on national television for all to see. I believe that when Tim goes to heaven he will hear God say  “Well done, [thou] good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. Matt 25:21  What will God say to you?
If you haven’t accepted the gift of eternal life, I urge you to do so today. It’s free and it’s yours for the asking.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16  God Bless you Tim and thank you for your courage and conviction. May you win many hearts over to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

I-1183 Again?

Last year the State of Washington voters resoundingly defeated an initiative to privatize liquor sales. I believe it was the correct decision. Apparently our State Legislators didn’t agree. Whether it’s the State or Federal Government, they know what’s best for us, WE THE (stupid) PEOPLE don’t! The ads for I-1183 are very deceiving. While not quite lying, important facts are being left out. The following text that I find troubling is from the actual initiative:

However, existing grocery premises
licensed to sell beer and/or wine are deemed to be premises “now
licensed” under RCW 66.24.010(9)(a) for the purpose of processing
applications for spirits retail licenses.
(c) The board may not deny a spirits retail license to an otherwise
qualified contract liquor store at its contract location or to the
holder of former state liquor store operating rights sold at auction
under section 102 of this act on the grounds of location, nature, or
size of the premises to be licensed. The board shall not deny a spirits
retail license to applicants that are not contract liquor stores or
operating rights holders on the grounds of the size of the premises to
be licensed, if such applicant is otherwise qualified and the board
determines that:
(i) There is no retail spirits license holder in the trade area
that the applicant proposes to serve;
(ii) The applicant meets, or upon licensure will meet, the
operational requirements established by the board by rule; and
(iii) The licensee has not committed more than one public safety
violation within the three years preceding application

In this economy many profit driven mini marts and small grocery stores will choose cash over valid identification. We see this now with tobacco. As long as you have the money, who cares how old you are.
It takes a lot more guts for a minor to walk into a State liquor store…their intentions are clear. However walking into a mini mart at night to grab a candy bar while sizing up the clerk is much too tempting and easy. Besides, being an old fashion Gal, I like the idea of the Blue Law…liquor stores are closed on Sunday.
Liquor is a dangerous drug. In the wrong hands, the results can be devastating and forever life changing. Kids aren’t drinking socially or responsibly; they are out to get drunk.
Lets send a message to the State again…vote NO on I-1183.

Waiting for “Superman”- An Indictment of the Public Education System

Waiting for “Superman” is a documentary that shadows the lives of five kids and their families as they try to escape their failing neighborhood public schools for higher-performing public charter schools. Public charter schools use the tax money that would otherwise go to perpetuate a failing neighborhood public school to create advanced learning institutions. Interestingly enough, it shatters the theory that poor neighborhoods breed a poor education. The example of charter schools in Harlem and Washington D.C. show the exact opposite – a poor education breeds a poor neighborhood.

The movie interviews many excellent teachers and education reformers who have failed in their pursuit to improve the public education system. The unyielding power of the labor unions and the protection afforded to its members has crippled the education system that has been in place since the early 1970′s. It has failed miserably and will continue to fail if allowed to continue in its present state.

It’s not about educating our children; it’s all about protecting the bureaucracy and the adults that comprise it. Our educational system is failing because it cannot reward good teachers or fire bad ones.

I am the product of a public education. I believe it was for the most part, a good education. I had teachers who cared, who inspired, and who were good at their job. However, I also had teachers that didn’t teach. There was one teacher that would start a lesson, have a psychotic meltdown, and hide under his desk for the rest of the period. Another teacher would play Cheech & Chong albums for the entire period while the guys on the basketball team passed around the ball – he was the basketball coach.

For all the Presidents that have made education a number one priority, nothing has changed. We just throw more money at the problem instead of actually fixing it. The United States has more than doubled the money it spends per student since 1971 and yet we as a nation are behind most other nations in math and science. Whether you have children or not, these are your tax dollars going into a system that has been purposely broken, meant to dumb down our children – our natural resource, our future. This documentary will frustrate and sadden you. It will also give you hope as it shows actual working solutions to our problems. We as Americans need to stand up and say enough is enough.

I urge you to watch this very important documentary, and then tell your friends to watch it. For information on how you can join the fight, please go to www.waitingforsuperman.com/action/
